There
are four methods of joining metals together, these are:
1. Soldering
2. Welding
3. Riveting
4. Mechanical fastener
1. Soldering:
this is the method or act of melting a solder (alloy) on
the
joint of the two metal. There are two types of soldering
namely:
1.Soft
soldering
2.Hard
soldering
solder is an alloy of lead and tin
2. Welding: this is a fabricating process that is used
to join metals
together by
melting the work pieces and adding a filler material
to form a
pool of molten material that cools to become a strong
joint.
There are two types of welding namely ARC
welding and GAS
welding
3. Riveting: this is
a permanent mechanical fastener which when
installed can not be removed except
destroyed. The opposite end
of the fastener is called BUCK TAIL while
the original head is
called RR FACTORY
HEAD.
